Movement is an essential part of living a healthy and happy life. Whether it's a quick walk around the block, a stretching session, or a high-intensity workout, moving your body has countless benefits. And the good news is there are thousands of ways to incorporate movement into our daily lives!  Exercise helps to increase endorphins, which improve mood and reduce stress. It also boosts energy levels and improves our sleep quality. Regular movement leads to a stronger and more resilient body, increased flexibility, endurance, and muscle strength. And routine movement also improves brain function, cognitive abilities, and even gut health!  While incorporating movement into your routine improves your overall physical health -  to maintain your stamina - it is important to ensure that you're getting enough fiber!  Really? Yes! It’s true! Without enough fiber, most people will experience various digestive issues, low blood sugar levels, and reduced energy levels, which all contribute to lower stamina and endurance. Additionally, factors such as stress, inadequate sleep, and a sedentary lifestyle also pull the plug on our stamina!  How does fiber help? Fiber slows down the rate at which food is digested and absorbed in the body. This means that carbohydrates from foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are released more slowly into the bloodstream, providing a steady source of energy over a longer period of time.  This can help to prevent the energy crashes that can come from consuming high-sugar, low-fiber foods.  In addition, fiber helps to promote a healthy digestive system. When the digestive system is functioning at its best, nutrients from our food are better absorbed and utilized by the body. This helps improve overall energy levels and stamina. Woohoo; fiber up!  So what are we going to do with all that stamina and endurance?? Let’s get moving!  Here’s a list of “off the beaten path” ideas to welcome Spring! Ready to try something new?  Host a Weekly Dance Party for 1 (or more!) Pick 5 of your favorite songs and throw yourself a mini dance party every week! Dancing releases endorphins which relieve stress, and shakin’ your groove thang improves agility and balance! So let’s cut a rug!  Take a Hike National Park Week is from April 22 to April 30 this year, and entrance fees will be waived on April 22, 2023, to kick off the celebration!  Go enjoy our national parks; take an adventure walk!  Spending time in nature can help reduce stress and promote relaxation.  In 1982, the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries created the term Shinrin-yoku, which translates to “forest bathing” or “absorbing the forest atmosphere.” The practice encourages people to simply spend time in nature — no actual bathing required. ;-) Try Rock Climbing Show everyone how much it ROCKS to try new things! Indoor or outdoor rock climbing is an amazing full-body workout that challenges both physical and mental strength! It builds upper body and core strength, improves endurance, and enhances flexibility, balance, and coordination.  Additionally, it helps to develop problem-solving skills, builds confidence, and reduces stress! Roller Skate / Roller Blade / Ice Skate Warning: This one is not for the chronically accident-prone. (You know who you are!! LOL!)  Roller skating is a fantastic way to get active and have fun at the same time! Not only does it improve cardiovascular health and strengthen leg muscles, but it also enhances balance, coordination, and agility. Don’t forget your helmet and pads. Let’s roll!  Martial Arts / Self-Defense  Upgrade your personal life skills AND get your body moving with Martial Arts or Self-Defense classes. Learning these skills is an excellent way to improve both physical and mental health.  It provides a full-body workout that improves cardiovascular health, strength, flexibility, and balance. In addition, it helps to develop self-discipline, focus, and self-confidence while reducing stress and anxiety levels.  Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned practitioner, martial arts is a fun and challenging activity that can benefit your overall health and well-being while adding a layer of personal safety and awareness. (Everyone should have basic self-defense skills.) Stand-up Paddle Boarding (SUP) Trying new things? That’s what’s up! Stand-up paddle boarding is a fantastic form of exercise because it engages multiple muscle groups throughout the body and improves balance and core strength. The beautiful scenery and fresh air make you forget you’re even exercising!  Kayaking  Kayaking is a fun and exciting way to get outside and get moving! Kayaking is a great cardiovascular workout and helps to build upper body and core strength, improve balance and coordination, and reduce stress levels. It may be a workout, but the views are fabulous!!  So take a leap and try something out of your comfort zone this year! Have fun, and be safe! Don’t forget to eat fiber-rich for improved endurance and stamina!  Live... just better.®
